Become part of a national community art project by contributing your own textile piece to a monumental tapestry exploring the history and legacy of Dutch slavery.

Textiel Innovatie Maastricht (TIM) is proud to host the Limburg edition of Threads of Our Dutch Slavery Past (DVONS), a nationwide participatory art project that brings communities together through textile.
From May to July 2026, everyone is invited to contribute to this monumental community tapestry, which will grow piece by piece through the work of hundreds of participants across the province. You can join for a single session or return multiple times, every contribution becomes part of the final tapestry. No experience is required, and all materials are provided.
The tapestry is created during the DVONS making sessions at Textiel Innovatie Maastricht, in François de Veyestraat 8B, 6221AB Maastricht. It's held every Monday, Tuesday, Friday, and Saturday from 10:00 to 12:00. Feel free to drop in whenever it suits you, whether you'd like to contribute for an hour or stay for the whole session.
The completed artwork will become part of the national DVONS exhibition, representing Limburg's stories and its historical connections to the Dutch slavery past.
Based on the artwork by Quinn Zeljak, participants collaborate on a monumental tapestry.
No previous textile experience is required. Whether you enjoy sewing, embroidery, appliqué or tufting, everyone is welcome to take part. Materials and guidance are available throughout the project.
You are welcome to join the dedicated DVONS making sessions at Textiel Innovatie Maastricht, where volunteers and textile makers work together on the tapestry. Feel free to drop in, contribute at your own pace, and become part of this unique collaborative artwork.
This is more than a textile workshop, it's an opportunity to connect with others, learn about a shared history, and help create a meaningful artwork that will become part of a national exhibition.
