FAQ
Yes. Doorspace can host events, presentations, talks, workshops, meetups, screenings, community gatherings, and other activities connected to making, design, creativity, sustainability, technology, education, or community building.
There is no fixed price to rent the space for an event.
Every event is different, so the price depends on the type of activity, duration, number of people, required equipment, setup, supervision, and whether the event fits the mission of the makerspace.
In some cases, Doorspace can also host events for free when the purpose fits well with the makerspace and its community.
You can get in touch with Doorspace and share some basic information about your event, such as:
- the type of event
- preferred date and time
- expected number of people
- duration
- required equipment
- whether you need catering or drinks
- whether the event is public, private, educational, cultural, or commercial
Based on this, we can discuss what is possible.
The official maximum capacity of the space is 72 people at the same time, including visitors, organisers, guests, and resident designers present in the building at that moment.

However, for events it is usually advised to source food externally rather than preparing everything on site.

This should be discussed in advance, especially for larger events or catering deliveries.
Doorspace is a makerspace in Maastricht where people can access tools, machines, workbenches, knowledge, and a community of makers. It is a place to create, learn, experiment, repair, prototype, and meet other people working on creative or technical projects.
Doorspace is open to makers, designers, students, artists, entrepreneurs, hobbyists, and anyone interested in making. Some machines require a safety induction before use.
Doorspace is located inside the hall of Qeske Maastricht
François de Veyestraat 8B
6221 AB Maastricht
Doorspace is open from 9am to 6pm Monday to Friday
Doorspace includes shared workbenches, woodworking machines, laser cutting, CNC routing, 3D printing, plastics recycling tools, sewing/textile equipment, a heat press, electronics tools, and general making facilities.
Access to specific machines depends on your training and the availability of the space.
Not immediately. For safety reasons, users need to complete the relevant machine safety induction before using certain machines. After the induction, you can use the machines you are authorised for.
Yes. Doorspace works with educational institutions and can arrange student licences for courses, projects, or temporary access.
For example, an institution can arrange a number of student licences for the duration of a course. Students still need to complete the relevant safety inductions before using machines.
Safety inductions are short training sessions explaining how to safely use a specific machine or machine group. They usually take about one hour. The induction needs to be completed before independent use of that machine.
For institutional groups, safety inductions are usually paid separately by the institution.
Yes. Doorspace can collaborate with schools, academies, universities, and other institutions. Options can include student licences, course-based access, specific workshops, safety inductions, or use of the facilities for a defined period.
The Makershub is the social café and cantine area of Doorspace. It is a place where people can come by, have a coffee, meet the community, see what is happening, and get a feeling for the makerspace.
Yes. Everyone is welcome to visit the Makershub.
We are working on making this area publicly accessible, but for now you need to get in touch with us before coming by, so we can let you in.
No. You do not need to be a member to visit the Makershub or have a coffee.
Membership is only needed if you want to use the makerspace facilities, workbenches, or machines.
Yes. Coffee is available and currently free.
In the Makershub you can find a small café/cantine area, information about Doorspace, and a pinboard with upcoming events, workshops, and activities.
Yes. Usually, when you visit the Makershub, you can meet some of the resident designers, makers, or members who are working at Doorspace.
It is a good way to get to know the community before becoming a member, joining a workshop, or starting a project.
The Makershub is mainly a social and community area. You are welcome to sit, have a coffee, talk with people, or ask questions about the space.
For longer working sessions, project work, or use of the makerspace facilities, you may need a membership or a specific agreement.
You can contact Doorspace, visit during an open day, or arrange an introduction. Before using machines independently, you will need to complete the relevant onboarding and safety inductions.
A standard monthly membership gives access to the makerspace during opening hours and use of the shared facilities and machines for which you have completed the safety induction.
The standard monthly membership is €80 per month excluding VAT per person.
Members can use the space during opening hours, but access is subject to availability. Workshops, courses, booked activities, or specific events may have priority over individual use.
Yes. Every user must sign a waiver of responsibility and must be covered by liability insurance.
A standard Doorspace membership costs €80 per month excluding VAT.
This membership is meant for people who already know they want to use the makerspace regularly for a full month.
The monthly membership starts from the day you activate it. It is valid for 30 days from that date, not necessarily from the first day of the calendar month.
With the standard membership, members can come to Doorspace during opening hours and use the woodworking tools and shared workbenches.
To use specific machines, users must first complete the relevant safety induction and have the correct access permissions on their Doorspace NFC card.
No. Some machines have an additional hourly usage cost.
The standard membership includes access to the space and woodworking tools, but the following machines are charged separately:
| Machine | Price excluding VAT |
| Heat press | €7 per hour |
| CNC router | €40 per hour |
| Laser cutter | €22.50 per hour |
| 3D printer, without materials | €3 per hour |
| 3D printer, with materials | €5 per hour |
Yes. For casual users, Doorspace offers a daily membership of €10 per day excluding VAT.
This is useful for people who do not know in advance how often they will come, or who only need occasional access.
Yes. The daily membership is capped at €100 excluding VAT within a 30-day period.
This means that if you come more than 10 times within 30 days, your access is automatically capped at €100.
The 30-day period starts from the first day you come to Doorspace.
If you come more than 10 times within those 30 days, you pay a maximum of €100 excluding VAT for that 30-day period. After reaching the cap, you can continue to access Doorspace for the remaining days until the end of that 30-day period without paying extra daily access fees.
If you come 10 days or fewer within 30 days, you only pay for the days you actually used the space.
Yes. If you come to Doorspace for the first time on 5 March, your 30-day period starts on 5 March.
If you come 8 times between 5 March and 3 April, you pay 8 × €10 = €80 excluding VAT.
If you come 12 times between 5 March and 3 April, you pay the capped price of €100 excluding VAT, and you can still come for the remaining days of that 30-day period without extra daily access costs.
Yes. To access and use the machines, users need a Doorspace NFC card.
The NFC card is provided by Doorspace with a €10 deposit. This deposit is returned when the card is handed back.
The NFC card is used to manage machine access and safety permissions. After completing a machine safety induction, the relevant access can be added to your card.
This helps ensure that users only operate machines they have been trained to use.
At the moment, Doorspace does not yet offer longer memberships.
We are considering discounted memberships for 3, 6, and 12 months in the future. For more information about longer-term access, you can get in touch with us directly.
Yes. Doorspace hosts and develops workshops around making, woodworking, recycling, digital fabrication, electronics, repair, design, and related topics.
Workshop details depend on the number of participants, duration, required machines, materials, supervision, and safety requirements.
This depends on the activity and machines used. For hands-on machine-based workshops, smaller groups are usually better. For some activities, groups may need to be split so everyone can work safely and properly.
No. Doorspace is for both professionals and non-professionals. It is meant for people who want to make, learn, test ideas, repair things, or work on creative and technical projects.
Yes. Beginners are welcome. Many Doorspace activities are designed to introduce people to tools, materials, and making processes in an accessible way.
Yes, within reason. Members and users can work on personal, educational, or professional projects, as long as the use fits the space, safety rules, and availability.
Usually yes, but this depends on the material and the machine you want to use. Some materials are not safe or suitable for certain machines, especially laser cutters, CNC machines, or heat-based processes. Always check before using your own material.
Yes. Doorspace can support prototyping through access to tools, machines, knowledge, and sometimes direct design or fabrication support through Pro-Duck or the Doorspace network.
Small temporary storage may be possible, but it needs to be agreed in advance. Doorspace is a shared space, so long-term or large storage is limited.
You can contact Doorspace through the website or by email. For formal collaborations, courses, school groups, or institutional agreements, it is best to include the number of people, period, type of activity, required machines, and whether supervision or safety training is needed.
