End-grain chopboard

Turn raw wood into a durable, handmade end-grain cutting board in this hands-on workshop.

Looking for a unique Christmas gift? Whether you're making it for someone special or treating yourself, this workshop will guide you through the process of crafting a beautiful, professional-quality end-grain chopping board from solid hardwood.

End-grain boards are prized for their durability, knife-friendly surface, and timeless appearance. In this hands-on workshop, you'll learn traditional woodworking techniques while creating a piece that will last for years in the kitchen.

Because end-grain boards require several glue-ups with drying time in between, the workshop is divided into three sessions.

Session 1 (±1.5 hours)

  • Choosing the right wood
  • Milling and preparing the timber
  • Designing the grain pattern
  • First glue-up and clamping

Session 2 (±1 hour)

  • Cutting and rotating the board to reveal the end grain
  • Preparing the final pattern
  • Second glue-up

Session 3 (±1 hour)

  • Flattening and surfacing
  • Sanding to a silky finish
  • Applying food-safe oil
  • Care and maintenance tips

During the workshop you'll learn

  • How end-grain chopping boards are designed and constructed
  • Safe use of woodworking machinery and hand tools
  • Accurate milling and glue-up techniques
  • Sanding and finishing methods for a professional result
  • How to maintain your board so it lasts a lifetime

By the end of the workshop you'll leave with your own handcrafted chopping board, ready to wrap as a thoughtful Christmas present, or to keep for yourself.
