Desk lamp workshop

This workshop is spread over two sessions of approximately two hours each, allowing enough time to carefully build, finish, and assemble your lamp.

Session 1. Making the wooden structure

During the first session you'll prepare all wooden components that form the adjustable frame.

You'll learn to:

• Safely use the bandsaw, drill press and sanding machines
• Measure and prepare wooden components
• Cut and shape the individual parts
• Drill accurate holes for the pivot joints
• Dry-fit the structure to ensure everything moves smoothly

Session 2. Assembly and finishing

In the second session you'll complete the lamp and add the finishing touches.

You'll:

• Assemble the adjustable wooden frame
• Sand all components to a smooth finish
• Apply a natural hardwax oil or furniture oil
• Mount the bicycle lamp
• Make final adjustments and test the movement of the lamp

Throughout the workshop you will:

• Learn the basics of woodworking
• Understand how moving wooden joints are designed
• Practice accurate measuring, drilling and assembly
• Gain confidence using woodworking machinery safely
• Build a functional design object to take home

By the end of the workshop you'll leave with your own adjustable wooden desk lamp and the practical skills to continue making similar woodworking projects.

All tools, safety equipment, and woodworking materials are provided. The bicycle lamp can either be brought by the participant or purchased through Doorspace.
