CNC Router - Introduction Course

Take your first step into digital fabrication with the Doorspace CNC router course. Spread over four weekly evening sessions, this hands-on course is designed for complete beginners who want to safely and confidently operate a CNC router.

You'll learn the complete workflow, from preparing a digital design to machining a finished part, while gaining an understanding of tooling, workholding, machine setup, and safe operation. Throughout the course, participants are encouraged to bring a project of their own, which can be used as the basis for the practical exercises.

During the course you'll learn:

Week 1 – CNC Fundamentals & Safety

  • Introduction to CNC machining
  • Machine safety and workshop procedures
  • Understanding tooling and materials
  • Overview of the CNC workflow

Week 2 – Design & CAM

  • Preparing files for CNC machining
  • Toolpaths and machining strategies
  • Choosing cutters, feeds and speeds
  • Simulating a machining job

Week 3 – Machine Setup

  • Securing materials to the machine
  • Installing and measuring tools
  • Setting work coordinates
  • Running test operations

Week 4 – Machining Your Project

  • Machine your own design
  • Finishing techniques
  • Common troubleshooting
  • Basic machine maintenance and cleaning

Certification

Upon successful completion of the course, participants will be certified to independently use the CNC router.

As the CNC router is a powerful industrial machine, completion of this course is mandatory before independent machine use is permitted.

Course Details

  • Duration: 4 sessions of 2 hours each
  • Schedule: Once per week, 16:00–18:00
  • Participants: Exactly 4 participants per course
  • Course fee: €100 per person (excluding VAT)

The course is designed for a group of four participants. If fewer than four people wish to attend, the total course fee will be shared between the participants to cover the minimum course cost.

Each participant receives one hour of complimentary CNC machine time (normally €40/hour, excluding VAT) to machine their own project during or after the course.

After certification, the CNC router can be booked independently during opening hours at €40 per hour (excluding VAT).

No previous CNC experience is required, just bring your curiosity, and if you already have an idea you'd like to make, feel free to bring it along!
